What Is International Men's Day?

International Men’s Day (IMD) observed on November 19 focuses on men’s health and well-being, improving gender relations, highlighting great male role models, and promoting positive expressions of masculinity. It’s also an opportunity to recognize men who don’t fall into traditional manifestations of masculinity, such as gay and bisexual men, trans-gender, or masculine non-binary people.

One of the six pillars of International Men’s Day is to improve gender relations and promote gender equality not only for men but for women too. In this light IMD's theme for 2021 is “Better relations between men and women.”

		It's a day to celebrate all men Not all men are celebrated to the same degree. International Men’s Day reminds us that there are lots of different kinds of men in the world, and they all deserve a voice.			It is a day for helping people Men face a lot of pressure in society—they're expected to be providers, and to refrain from asking for help or sharing their feelings. International Men’s Day is all about addressing these dangerous gender norms and helping to redefine masculinity.
		It's a day to reflect Some people might explore their own gender lens and how it may have affected them. International Men’s Day is an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about gender and being an ally.			It’s All About Gender Equality Gender equality is always a worthy goal, and International Men’s Day reminds us to make a special effort to strive for positive relations across the entire gender spectrum.
