New Jersey Hospital Association Honors Wilfredo Fernandez as 2019 "Hospital and Healthcare System Trustee of the Year"

Citrin Cooperman partner, Wilfredo Fernandez, was presented with New Jersey Hospital Association’s (NJHA)“Hospital and Healthcare System Trustee of the Year Award” during NJHA's 100th Annual Meeting, at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton, NJ.

The meeting closed NJHA’s centennial year and welcomed more than 400 executives, trustees, and physicians from across the state, who joined to celebrate 100 years of improving health care in New Jersey, and to honor several hospitals, healthcare facilities, and individuals for their outstanding commitment to healthcare.

Fernandez is a partner at Citrin Cooperman, with over 30 years of experience providing strategic auditing, accounting, tax, and consulting services. He is the practice co-leader of the firm’s Auto Dealership Practice, co-leader of the Business Advisory Services committee, and a member of the firm's executive committee.

“Will has been faithfully dedicated to the New Jersey hospital and health care community, and similar not-for-profit, for the better part of his life,” said Alex Serrano, managing partner of the firm’s Livingston, NJ office. “This is a tremendous honor, and we are truly excited for Will to be recognized in this manner, and for a cause to which he has been so passionately of service.”

Fernandez has been a board member with the St. Joseph’s Health organization for 20 years. He first joined the health system in 1998 as a member of the Wayne General Board of Trustees. He has served as a loyal steward of the St. Joseph’s mission values and strategic assets, offering his exceptional professional talents and insight with an eye toward serving the poor and vulnerable of the surrounding communities.

A press release issued by NJHA on January 18, 2019, states that “Fernandez’s finance and business acumen would prove to be invaluable in helping the hospital maintain services and sustain jobs during times of struggle. Recognizing his exceptional dedication and leadership, Fernandez was invited to join the St. Joseph’s Board of Trustees when Wayne General joined the Paterson-based health system.”

The NJHA is a not-for-profit trade organization committed to delivering support and services to the state’s hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers. NJHA provides leadership in advocacy, policy analysis, quality and financial data, education, and community outreach.
