As business became more global in nature over the past decade, small and mid-sized accounting firms around the world started joining accounting firm alliances with the goal of remaining competitive and assuring clients they were able to do business in far-flung corners of the world.

Problems began arising, however, when membership in some of the larger alliances proved to be somewhat less than a satisfying experience.

Contacting a partner at some of these “member” firms was often an exercise in patience, when the U.S.-based firm needed an answer for their client right away. Fees began rising without a commensurate rise in the level of service the association provided to its members. Finally, membership in some of these alliances grew so exponentially that many firms started feeling that they were little more than a name on a list.

Seeing this trend, our firm founded Premier International Associates in 1997.

We recognized from the start that for a firm alliance to be effective and provide true global reach, it must by its very nature be an exclusive club. Members would be vetted to see whether their culture, their clients, their partner personalities would mesh well with the others.

And in a profession where relationships are paramount, we instinctively realized that we needed to choose our members as carefully as we chose our own partners, our own clients.

To date, Premier International has 25 members in countries throughout the world. And every client of each Premier International firm has access to at least one partner and receives individual attention on a peer-to-peer level.
