CMS Suspends SNF Provider Enrollment Revalidation Deadline
Skilled nursing facilities are getting an early holiday present as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) announced last week that the mandatory off-cycle SNF provider enrollment revalidation requirement is being suspended. The revalidations were due on January 1, 2026; however, no revised due date has been given at this time.
Those providers who have already started the process can attest to how cumbersome and time-consuming it was. The provider enrollment revalidation specifications were expanded significantly in 2024 and requires a substantial number of new disclosures. Many of them pertain to expanded information on additional disclosable parties (ADPs), including consultants, third-party vendors, owners, and others with operational control. Facility management has been forced to invest substantial amounts of time in gathering this new information.
The degree of difficulty involved was apparent early on. CMS postponed the due date three times in 2025, but the January 1, 2026, deadline seemed likely to be enforced. With no new deadline established at this time, there is hope that perhaps the new requirements may be streamlined or even rescinded. Regardless, it is welcome news for our skilled nursing facility clients who are already struggling with staffing and other operational challenges.
