A Hatchery Transitions to NetSuite to Build a Financial Foundation for the Future
Client: Chicken and poultry manufacturing company
Client's Goals: Replacing QuickBooks with a NetSuite platform for new subsidiaries and future expansion
Our Team's Role: NetSuite implementation, customized NetSuite scripting, project management, design, and change management
A chicken and poultry hatchery realized that QuickBooks is not the long-term solution for their complex business. Citrin Cooperman served as their technology implementor and advisor and broke this project down into phases that provided value quickly while moving the company towards its ultimate goal of a modern, efficient platform. NetSuite provided the flexibility and scalability required to manage financial impacts related to the lifecycle of animals, and Phase 1 of the transition to this platform focused on financials with future phases expanding to the order management process, new subsidiaries, and integration with SPS Commerce, Avalara, Pitney Bowes, Expensify, Bamboo HR, and more.
Challenges
- Unique business processes require heavy modifications in QuickBooks.
- QuickBooks does not have the agility to manage all parts of the business.
- Customizing QuickBooks to meet specific needs is not an option.
Results
- Ran a structured selection process for key vendors
- Built a robust, structured project management office that contained the leads from Citrin Cooperman’s team, the hatchery, and all their vendors
- Focused on process design, change management, and testing with consideration of staff availability and budget
Key Benefits
- Extensive custom scripting (800+ hours) produced the right financial solution for the hatchery.
- A modern financial management system was implemented.
- A foundation was established to add subsidiaries.
- The firm is prepared to expand its use of NetSuite to other areas such as order management, electronic data interchange (EDI), and automated tax management.
